The six-lane bridge that spans a distance of 32.5 kilometres begins at Luchao Port in Nanhui County of Shanghai and ends at the small Yangshan lslands in Shengsi county, Zhejiang province. The bridge is reported by state media to be solely financed by authorities in Shanghai, and is intended to be a key component of the first phase of the Yangshan Deep Water Port Project. The bridge is expected to bring economic benefits to Shengsi County as well as Zhoushan city by cutting down the travel time from Zhoushan to Shanghai.
